The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
